Kid-Friendly Summer Vacation Destinations

Summer is well and truly at its peak, and while the kids are off of school, now is the best time to have that family vacation. There may be fun things to do around your area that will keep the kids busy, but family vacations are the time where memories are made. If you are stuck on where to go, here are some of the most kid-friendly destinations in North America.

Orlando, Florida – Let’s start with the obvious. Probably one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, Orlando hosts a whole lot of good things for kids and parents. It’s not all about Disney World and Universal either (although both are loads of fun!) The Magic Kingdom in Disney isn’t called that for nothing, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter never ceases to amaze! There is so much more you can do though in Orlando. Swim with the dolphins at Discovery Cove, see real life alligators at Gatorland, try some of the many hands-on science exhibits at the WonderWorks, or even be in awe at Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Less than an hour away is the Kennedy Space Center where NASA made history. Kids will love to see the Astronaut experience and a few of the spaceships. If you’re wanting a beach, try Clearwater Beach which is less than two hours from Orlando and was once voted the best beach in America. The family-friendly beach often has activities on for the kids, as well as an awesome pier where you can try your hand at fishing. Near there is also Busch Gardens in Tampa, a zoo-themed park with lots of rollercoasters and amazing animals.

Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee – Dollywood not only has a wonderful theme park, but there is also a fun water park too! Located in the Smoky Mountains, you get the most gorgeous views while the kids get to play. Stay at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort for an extra bonus. Not only is it beautiful, but there is a program called Camp DW where children aged 4-10 will learn all about the nature in the area. There is also a nightly storytelling in partnership with the International Storytelling Center. Plus, if you stay here you get the added bonus of a timesaver pass that lets you skip long lines at Dollywood and enter early on a Saturday.

Vancouver, Canada – Vancouver is ranked #1 in family vacations in Canada. This city, dubbed “Hollywood North” due to its chic vibe, has plenty to see and do for every member of the family. The kids will love Stanley Park, where there’s an aquarium, water park, four playgrounds, and a miniature train. There are lots of physical activities available too like kayaking, biking, and hiking. There are a few fantastic museums and 11 miles of beach, so you can have a very wide variety of activities in this bustling city!

Hershey, Pennsylvania – A whole town dedicated to chocolate? We can get on board with that! And we’re sure the kids will too! Not only do you have the chocolate-themed Hershey Park, but Hotel Hershey is a great on-site family-friendly hotel. Children ages five and up can enjoy Cocoa Clubhouse, a program that includes swimming, trips to the park’s butterfly garden, and even ice cream making. There’s a wildlife park, lazy river, and loads of fun rides at Hersey Park as well. Plus, if you stay at Hotel Hershey, you get to enter the parks a bit earlier and skip the lines.

Winnetu Oceanside Resort, Edgartown, Massachusetts – Here is a vacation destination that is a bit more relaxing…at least for Mom and Dad! The Winnetu Oceanside Resort is the biggest property at Martha’s Vineyard. Stay in one to four-bedroom hotel suits or a private cottage that has up to five bedrooms with kitchens and dining rooms – perfect for large families. During the day, the resort offers complimentary programs for kids and even the teenagers! There are rides on the antique fire truck, games, face painting, and nightly bonfires where you can make delicious s’mores. Martha’s Vineyard is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the east coast, and families will certainly enjoy relaxing while having a good time here.

Royal Caribbean Cruises – Why leave the vacation to just ONE destination? Try a cruise! There are different ones going to different places, embarking from various ports, but they all have something in common: The amazing kids’ programs! Children are divided up by age for age-appropriate activities whilst on the ship, even 15-17 year olds get their own program designed just for them where they have sports days and themed parties. There are lots of family rooms, so you don’t have to worry about tight cabin space. Toddler-friendly splash pools means even your littlest of family members can have a lot of fun. Dozens of food choices means everyone is happy. All of this from a ship! Of course, you get to dock and visit some exotic places, but while you’re out at sea, you or your kids won’t be missing land.

These are only just some of the amazing places to visit around North America. Get the kids away from the computer and video games and start making family memories. You won’t be hearing “I’m bored!” anytime soon with a visit to these kid-friendly vacation destinations.
