The nights are getting darker and cooler, spooky decorations are going up, and grinning pumpkins are everywhere…must be tie for Halloween! If like us you love getting involved in this fun celebration, you and your kids probably have an idea of what they want to dress up as this year as they walk around yelling, “Trick or treat!” but if not, we have put together some of the most popular types of costumes for 2017 to help give a little inspiration.

Having your child dress up as their favorite animal is always a big hit! Many stores have animal costumes in stock, but you don’t need to go overboard. Sometimes just a bit of facepaint, headband ears, and appropriate colored clothing can do the trick! It’s a super cute idea, especially for the little ones.

Superheroes

Like animals, superhero costumes never seem to go out of style, but this year it is bigger than ever with the girls! Strong female leads and movies like Wonder Woman has really inspired young girls, and we think it’s great. The classics like Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman, and Batman continue to reign on most popular superhero costumes. You can often find the basic costume, but sometimes they come in kits that go all-out with all sorts of gadgets.

Witches and Sorcerers

Witches aren’t necessarily green with long noses and warts! Your child can choose the style as there are witch costumes for pretty much all types, like this cutie with a multi-colored dress and classic crisscross and puffy sleeves. Don’t forget the hat and broom! Those accessories are a must for any witch costume. Sorcerers could go with a big hat and long beard.

Are your kids Paw Patrol mad? This Nickelodeon hit is loved all over the world by children. Now you child can dress up as Chase and pals along with the Pup Packs they need to take on missions in Adventure Bay!

Day of the Dead Skeletons

The Day of the Dead (or El Dia de los Muertos) is a Latin American celebration that remembers those no longer in this life. Those who celebrate believe the spirit of their loved ones visit on October 31st and leave on November 2nd. The elaborate skeleton costumes have really caught on worldwide. These aren’t your typical skeleton costumes. They are colorful and fancy sugar skulls, often found with pretty flowers in the hair for the girls and hats or sombreros for the boys. This is growing in popularity, and it is easy to find Day of the Dead costumes in more stores now. It is particularly popular with teenagers who want to have a unique look at a party.

Star Wars

This year marks 40 years since we first saw Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia on screens trying to save the galaxy. You might have been a fan growing up, but now your kids are too thanks to the continuation of the story and new movie, The Last Jedi, coming out this December. No doubt will Star Wars costumes be flying off the shelves. New characters like Rey and Kylo Ren are popular, but so are the classics. We love little C-3PO and R2-D2 here!

Christmas (yes, that’s right!)

Think it’s too early to be talking about Christmas? Maybe so! But if you are an eager one for the festive holiday, then these costumes are for you! We seem to think we see Christmas stuff come out earlier and earlier every year, so why not snag yourself one of these cute elf costumes for your child to go as for Halloween? They’re simple (and of course can be used again in less than a couple of months!) Costumes like these are most popular for the littlest ones in our family. If you want something a little more out there, go as the Grinch!

Disney Characters

Disney never fails to come out with a new hit every year, but the classics are always good too. Mickey Mouse is the most recognizable symbol in the world after all! Mickey and friends are a good choice, as well as the Disney princesses and heroes.

Finally, you don’t need to go with traditional costumes. Think outside the box! Creative homemade costumes often have that WOW factor, like this crazy cat lady that makes us laugh! We’ve also seen toddler costumes for 80s workout girls, grandmas/grandpas, and Starbucks cups. Why not? Go all out!
